The Music Hatchery - 23rd - 25th February

Durham City Arts' Free Range Music project invites you to The Music
Hatchery, a three-day celebration of music for children and young people
in Durham.

The Music Hatchery offers an exciting variety of activities and
workshops for young musicians alongside a series of thought-provoking
seminars, discussion groups and networking opportunities for music
leaders, both professional and amateur. The Sharing Event marks a year
of workshops and events from Free Range Music and showcases musical
talent from our young people and professional acts from around the
world.

The Music Hatchery is packed with opportunities for young musicians to
work with some of the best musicians on the scene. These include young
American jazz trumpeter, composer and recording artist Abram Wilson,
exciting and unique Dutch brass trio De Jongens Driest and British world
music contemporary brass band The Real Macaws.

Music leaders, arts practitioners and music teachers will have the
opportunity to discuss some of the major issues regarding the provision
of music for young people. Discussion groups will be led by experienced
and professional music leaders and practitioners from across the UK,
including Pete Moser of the highly successful 'More Music in Morcambe'
project, Robin Osterley, Chief Executive of Making Music, the National
Federation of Music Societies and Nigel Greenwood of the Real Macaws and
Music Co-ordinator for Free Range Music.

The Music Hatchery will also include a keynote address by Colin
Brackley-Jones, Director of the National Federation of Music Services,
which will be supported by the 'virtual presence' of some of the leading
figures from the world of music, politics and public life.

This three-day celebration runs from Thursday 23rd - Saturday 25th
February 2006 and caters for professionals, volunteers and young people
of all levels of experience and confidence. For a full programme of
activities and more information regarding accomodation, contacts and
costs please visit our website through the link below. Discounted rates
are available for those working on a voluntary basis or for
non-profit/charitable organisations.
