FASTEST MEN IN WORLD COMPETE AT GATESHEAD

The long-awaited sprint showdown between the two fastest men in the world will take place at the Norwich Union British Grand Prix at Gateshead International Stadium on the 11th June.
World 100m record holder Asafa Powell has confirmed he will run at the meeting, joining world and Olympic champion Justin Gatlin. This is the biggest 100m race at Gateshead International Stadium since Lewis v Christie back in 1993. The head-to-head encounter at Gateshead takes on an even greater significance after the pair recorded identical times in different races in the last few weeks. Gatlin clocked 9.95 seconds in Japan, the fastest 100m in the world this year, and that was matched by Powell who was competing in Jamaica on the same day.

A host of other international medallists will be competing as this world class event which returns to the North East for the first time since 2004. Tickets for the Norwich Union British Grand Prix, priced between £5 and £14, on Sunday 11 June at Gateshead International Stadium, are available by phone on 0870 402 8000 or online at www.ukathletics.net
